This
is a view that I will not see anytime soon. Being an enthusiast driver it
took a tight budget and very low fares to take me out of my car and into a
plane for my trips to LA. I love freedom and flexibility. Taking the car
puts me IN control of my schedule. Boarding a plane puts me UNDER the
control of anybody else. Sure, I can choose from several departure times,
and, once in the air the travel time is quick. Additionally, according to
statistics, it is safer to fly (to be sure, not all auto accidents are
fatal while most, if not all plane accidents are lethal). However, doing
so makes me arrange for a place to store the car, ask a friend to drop and
pick me up at the terminals, being on time for the commute to and from the
airport, limit the amount of luggage, make lines for getting board passes,
boarding the plane, etc. After Sep. 11 air travel inconveniences are more
than I could bear for a trip shorter than 400 miles. The only thing I miss
is the occasional fare free trip and drinking wine on my way to and from
LA. |
