The "Digging" Report Q1 2004

March 31, 2004

"If something can go wrong, it will", from Murphy's laws

My Personal "Mutual Fund" OTC:RASXX

Note: OTC means Over The Counter. The ticker symbol is fictitious; please don't ask your broker to buy it. In the rare event that such a ticker does exist please inform me at once, in order to change it. I don't want to mislead anyone.

What a ride! Despite a promising start for the year, the NASDAQ and the Russell 2000 (not shown here) turned tails on the last days of January. The broader indexes held their ground until early March. By the end of the quarter only the S&P 500 was above water. This quarter also saw what could be a turning point in my personal life. There are no guarantees that the worst is past me, but for the time being, I can breathe easier. That could not be said for my accounts though. It continues to bleed and trail the market averages. The 12-month trailing performance paints a stark difference between the results of my management and the S&P 500. If I ever hope to escape from the "prison" I need to turn around myself and start doing a much better job.
